The wonderful folks from the Small Press Zine Fair in Hobart are throwing a Read To Me party to launch their fair.
The event is on Friday November 16th at Bar 3/65.Opens at 7pm, Read To Me at 8pm, and goes until late. Go to level 3, Studio 65 Murray Street (up the elevators to the left of Lush on Murray Street).
$5 entry. Killer stories. Open bar. DJ Philistine. All your favorite people that you never make time to see. It’s going to be rad.
Curated by Josh Santospirito, Read To Me will feature the work of Paul Peart-Smith (Cygnet/UK), Alyssa Bermudez (Hobart/USA), Tony Thorne (Hobart), Leigh Rigozzi (Koonya), Vivienne Cutbush (Hobart), Lucy Adelaide (Hobart), and Meg O’Shea (Sydney).
Each of these artists creates personal, thoughtful, occasionally heartbreaking, sometimes hilarious works for adults, skillfully manipulating the comics medium to create powerful, moving content. Their work addresses political themes, issues of identity, memory, and place, and range in form from comic journalism, to philosophy, fiction and biography.
This event is supported by Island magazine, Read To Me, 3/65, San Kessto Publications, and the 2018 Small Press Zine Fair.
The Small Press Zine Fair will be held the next day. Don’t miss that either. That’s your chance to take some of the beautiful stories from the night before home with you.
The zine fair is on Saturday November 17 from 1-5pm at the Battery Point Community Hall (52 Hampden Rd).
